      Yes they do! Funny thing is, we now live in Mexio and so many houses where I live do NOT have hot water!! So instead of renting a house and spending the money on a hot water hear and it's installation, I just heat water on the stove, add it to a big bucket of water in my shower and use the camp shower. Skills learned while living in a van can be used elsewhere!

    Rob you seem like a nice genuine guy but you got one thing wrong in your video. Your tent IS NOT free standing. You mention that a couple/few times. And judging from some of the comments I was expecting you to show us the process of using the lag bolts in that somewhat rocky desert. That's all....thanks.

      @RobandMarvy Месяц назад

      Yes, you are absolutely correct. I was referring to the fact that you do NOT need Guy Lines. (I explain that clearly in this video, but I did use the term Free-Standing afterwards.) But regardless, I stand corrected. As far as drilling the screws into the hard rocky soil. you just drill them. No special technique. You can see it in this video. ruclips.net/video/0ozrYSUaUEI/видео.html

    Mexico is no more dangerous than the South Side of Chicago, but I'm not going to the South Side either. That said, your statistic that the United State has 3x the level of overall crime as Mexico is misleading as crime is underreported in Mexico. From what I understand its a combo of low levels of trust in the justice system and fear of reprisal. I think vacation areas and ex-pat areas are generally safe. However, being an American or driving a US registered car in many areas is an increase risk. Don't take my word, look at the US State Department for travel advisories on which Mexican states to avoid or to take precautions on.

    • @RobandMarvy
      @RobandMarvy 3 месяца назад

      And I guess that is a point... people should stay where they feel safe. I also would never live in a border town or a Mexican city known for its crime. Also, as stated in my video, there are things you just don't do in Mexico...like driving at night between towns. So if that is something you plan on doing with US plates on your car...then I would again just stay home. Also you are absolutely correct that the number of unreported crimes is very high in Mexico. I took that into cosideration, but you failed to mention that accorning to the Bureau of Justice: in 2022, in the US, only 41.5% of violent crimes and 31.8% of household property crimes were reported to authorities. keep in mind that the US has almost three times the population making the actual numbers much higher. But even if you take the unreported crimes into consideration, and cut the numbers in half, the US STILL has a higher crime rate. Now I am not saying that it is "Safe" to live in Mexico. But rather, if you really WANT to visit or live in Mexico or any other Country... do your homework. Personally, I have had more issues with crime AND police in the US. (Maybe because now I am older and not worth the trouble to anyone) But as far as anyone wanting to move to Mexico... well, I really don't have a dog in that fight. Stay home and face the local statistics in your city, or find a safer Country. I agree that Mexico is NOT topping the "safest" list, but it is an incredible Country once you understand it and put everything in perspective. With over a million Americans living here... by the way some people talk you would think that these expats should be being slaughtered or raped or robbed by the thousands. Instead, they are eating great food, meeting new friends and living an affordable life in an amazing culture.

    • @delvinmorales9458
      @delvinmorales9458 3 месяца назад

      @@RobandMarvy I agree with most of your points. However, considering that murder is more likely to be reported than burglary, Mexico's higher murder rate might provide a closer reflection of the true crime rate compared to the US. It does seem peculiar to suggest that one is more likely to be murdered in Mexico than robbed. I saw estimates that suggest 90% of crime in Mexico goes unreported. This underscores the complexities of comparing crime rates between countries. I could be wrong. there's people that exaggerate and there's people that downplay Mexico's violence and crime. Like in many places, violence tends to be concentrated in specific areas, and being informed about these regions is important for safety. Taking precautions, such as avoiding nighttime travel between towns, is sensible. Ultimately, Mexico's beauty is undeniable, but thorough research, reading travel advisories, and taking necessary precautions are essential.

    I lived out of my van (Australia) for over three years when my house burned down, and learned a lot about parking. There are generally plenty of places to spend the night, and I found the most convenient places were in the suburban-housing off-highway 'back-streets', among other vehicles parked on the side of the road in front of houses. Only on one occasion did some nosey-parker call the police, (repeatedly!). At the end of a 5-minute conversation with the attending coppers (licence-check, etc) I pointed out that my vehicle was registered and that therefore I could park on ANY public street. More discussion decided that 'local authorities' had no business in designating 'No Parking' areas except in line with stringent State laws: eg. bus-stops/across driveways/ private car-parks etc. The issue took about a week to sort out (I'd found a backstreet that provided access to a power-point! and wasn't about to give it up easily) but in the end they agreed I could park there (but NOT use the power-point!). However, a few days later they came back and told me they'd arranged a Public Housing villa unit for me and that I should move in the next day. Just to be smart-arse I insisted that I was permitted to park in any public street. They responded with the half-serious threat of declaring my van 'unroadworthy', (which it was: grossly!) which meant the registration lapsed and it could no longer legally be on the road at all. So I gave in gracefully and moved into the unit they'd arranged: modern, all modcons, attractive neighbourhood and in a most convenient area. (and MANY more benefits which I won't go into here). So I didn't begrudge them their 'victory'. My current fight is with the 'bureaucracy' which insists I'm not permitted to allow homeless kids to sleep in my van (parked out on the street) nor allow them access to my kitchen/ bathroom/toilet/solar-panels (which they'd previously disallowed ME to set up) etc. Will win that one too. (Publicity is on my side!) Point is, don't just cop the status-quo as the word of god. If you're not prepared to fight you have NO HOPE of scoring reasonable victories. Take care y'all.
